Meet Our Staff

Dr. Bronson W. Hamada

Dr. Bronson W. Hamada is a native Southern Californian. He grew up in Anaheim, went to California State University, Fullerton, then graduated from Indiana University, College of Optometry. He did internships in Bloomington and Indianapolis, Indiana and also White Plains, New York.

During his college athletic career, he was the Southern California Intercollegiate Fencing Champion, First Team All Conference, "Most Outstanding Fencer" NCAA Western Region, and NCAA All American (ranked fifth in the nation).

Dr. Hamada is an "Expert Examiner" for the California Board of Optometry and the "Supervising Examiner" for the National Board of Examiners clinical skills exam. He is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and glaucoma. He is a clinical investigator and consultant to the contact lens industry. Dr. Hamada serves as clinical preceptor for Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Salus University.

His passion is helping athletes reach their full human athletic potential. He developed the sports vision performance Center of Excellence at Surf City Optometry, and he serves as the eye doctor for several U.S.National Teams. He has had the pleasure of working with some of the icons of sport, but he thoroughly enjoys helping athletes of any age or ability. Surf City Optometry's founding credo is "We will embrace a holistic health paradigm, because the eyes and body are intricately related." And in the pursuit of eye care excellence, we follow another company's credo, "We will introduce you to innovative eye care solutions."

He enjoys playing basketball, travelling (including Hawaii, where his parents are from), gardening, and spending time with his wife Jocelyn and children Sophie, Brian, and Lili.

Dr. Amy T. Dinh

Dr. Amy T. Dinh is a glaucoma certified optometrist that treats and manages various types of ocular diseases and conditions. Her areas of special interest include the use of specialty contact lenses to fit corneal degeneration and corneal reshaping therapy for children. She especially enjoys working with children to prevent visual impairment and strives to have every child reach their highest potential at school and in life.

Dr. Dinh earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology, from University of California, Irvine. She graduated fr graduated at the top of her class. She completed om Southern California College of Optometry where sheinternships at the Center for Partially Sighted in Los Angeles, Optometric Center of Los Angeles, David Grant Medical Center in Sacramento, and Veterans Hospital in West Los Angeles.

Dr. Dinh is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and the Asian American Optometric Society. She has volunteered with Special Olympics in an effort to detect and treat ocular disease and vision loss. Dr. Dinh embodies our credo, "We will pursue cutting edge technology to diagnose, manage and promote healthy eyes."

On her free time, Dr. Dinh enjoys traveling, watching Lakers basketball, and baking for her husband and family since she has a big "sweet tooth"! If you have a wonderful baking recipe you would like to share, please come visit the office and let her know about it.

Dr. Mary D. Vivirito

Dr. Mary D. Vivirito is a California native who is passionate about serving her community, both in and out of the office! She graduated from UCLA in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in biology. At UCLA she was a recipient of the Ralph J. Bunche Alumni scholarship, through which she participated in different community service projects during college. This experience instilled in her a desire to serve her community in health care.

She attended the New England College of Optometry, training at the Perkin’s School for the Blind, the VA Medical Center in Portland, OR, South Boston Community Health Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. As a student she helped provide eye exams to those lacking access to health care through mission work in Belize. She graduated with her doctorate of optometry in 2014 as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa’s honor society and was the recipient of the Ira Schwarz Behavioral Vision Award for pediatric optometry.

She completed her residency in 2015 at Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach, CA specializing in Low Vision Rehabilitation and Primary Eye Care. During her residency Dr. Vivirito was privileged to serve veterans with visual impairment and legal blindness. Serving veterans will always remain a cause close to heart.

Out of the office Dr. Vivirito enjoys spending time with family and friends, painting, attending the opera and symphony, and volunteering with her church. She is fluent in Spanish, and her optometric interests include low vision and vision therapy. She is excited to be a part of Surf City Optometry and serving our patients!

Heidi Knauff 

Heidi is super friendly and always have a smile on her face. Her quick thinking is a skill to resolve any conflicts.

She loves to shop and travel to different states.

Jen Smith 

Jen has a bright smile and delightful personality! She embraces our office credo, "We will provide concierge customer service and treat patients like family."

Jen has experience managing a busy neurology group practice. She has been in customer service and patient care for over 15 years. She is currently enrolled at Santa Ana College in the nursing program.

She enjoys playing softball, cooking, styling hair and makeup on her free time.

Our Opticians

Jason Lam - Optician

Jason has over 20 years experience in the optical field. He is our genius when it comes to difficult or seemingly impossible requests. He is American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and National Contacts Lens Examiners (NCLE) certified and is an expert in all facets of the optical industry including designer eyewear, frame repairs, and specialty ophthalmic lenses. Jason manages our in-house custom lens grinding lab to precise specifications.

We proudly offer 1 hour optical service. Jason diligently follows our credo, "We will deliver the finest products to optimize visual performance, value, and aesthetics."

Dean GunHammer - Optician

Dean, a state licensed optician, with a lifetime of experience in luxury retail, has a vast knowledge of anything optical. He is an avid collector of vintage and handmade frames and has an eye for style!

He is an adventurous spirit and spends most of his free time exploring the mountains. He has climbed the tallest peaks in the USA and trekked through various terrains.

He is a well rounded person who takes pride in his work and treats everyone like family.

Kevin Nguyen - Optician

Kevin has been with us since 2016. He has been an Optician for more than 5 years. He is warm and friendly and is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for our patients.

Kevin loves to collect watches and sport cars. He currently own a Acura Integra Type R. 

Kevin is also our eyewear buyer. He meets with frame representatives to select the finest eyewear the optical industry has to offer. We take pride in having the finest eyewear selection around. Come on in, and take a look for yourself.

Try on a pair of the newest, lightest, and stylish frames and select from a wide array of digitally enhanced, high definition, lens options. We offer blue-light blocking computer eyewear.

Anh Nguyen - Patient Care Coordinator

Anh attended Cal State University of Fullerton, and got a B.S. in Health Science. She is striving to become one of our future nurse. She used to manage a Boba shop for over two years which gave her a great advantage dealing with customer services. 

She is currently working with Dr. Cano as a Vision Therapist Assistant. When it comes to organizing athletes profile, she is the go to person. 

She is super friendly and know exactly which style frame will be good on our patients. She is one of our biller, pre-tester, dispenser, and front office runner.

She loves to play sport, work with kids, draw self portrait, and a well known "foodies" around her family and friends. 

Lisa Phan - Patient Care Coordinator

Lisa is attending California State University, Fullerton and majoring in Health Science. She helps facilitate patient care and manages our contact lens inventory.

She loves to sky dive and hike and discover intriguing new food places. She is also a "competitive" gamer, but she doesn't want anyone to know that. 

Quynh Tran- Patient Care Coordinator

Quynh is currently a Health Science Major at Cal State University, Fullerton. She is pursuing a career as a neonatal nurse practitioner because her love for babies is out of this world. She also volunteers in the Mother Baby Unit at the Ob Admitting Office at St. Joseph Hospital, and works part time at a boba store. Quynh is our Pre-tester and is constantly smiling or laughing around the office. 

Quynh is our walking human yelp for she loves to go get food, especially desserts, with her friends and family. Come by our office for an Eye Exam and receive a complementary list of awesome desserts or main course restaurants to go to!
